Brief
history of ceramics
·
23,000–25,000 BCE: Earliest use of human ceramics (for
instance, in figurines of human beings and other animals fabricated from
pottery, located at Dolní Věstonice within the Czech Republic).
·
14,000BCE: Ceramic tiles are being made in India and
Mesopotamia.
·
18,000–14,000 BCE: Earliest use of pottery vessels
(for example, in Jiangxi, China).
·
7500–6500BCE: First use of dust bricks.
·
6000 BCE: Earliest recognized kiln
·
5000–8000 BCE: First use of glazes. Nile Valley of
Egypt. In step with
·
3500–5000BCE: Earliest use of glass (in line with Eric
Le Bourhis in Glass: Mechanics and technology).
·
3500–2500BCE: Invention of the potter's the wheel.
·
Mid-overdue 1900s: improvement of powerful glass and
ceramic insulators for telegraphs and electric-powered power distribution.
·
The 1940s: development of ferrite magnets for such
things as loudspeakers and electric-powered cars.
·
1986: excessive-temperature superconductors determined
via Georg Bednorz and k. Alex Müller of IBM.
Properties of Ceramic materials:
If I summarize I would say that the properties
of ceramics are:
- High melting points
- Great hardness and strength.
- Considerable durability.
- Low electrical and thermal conductivity.
- Chemical inertness.
- Compressive strength
- High resistance to corrosion ,weather and environment
- High Dimensional stability
- High melting point
- Ceramics are non-magnetics

What
Are The Applications Of Ceramics?
·
Most advance Ceramics are used in oil free bearing
·
Ceramics are used in aerospace industry because of low
weight compared to others
·
Ceramics are used in cutting tool(Because of hardness)
·
Ceramics are used as thermal insulators
·
Ceramics are used as electrical insulator (Ceramic
insulation)
·
Ceramics are used in construction industry (Tiles,
bricks)
·
Concrete is also ceramic material that is utilized in
maximum buildings and different civil engineering programs.
·
White ware products: which include pottery, stoneware,
satisfactory china, porcelain, other tableware, and so forth.
Conclusion
Ceramics
are everywhere around us playing important role in our daily life. Ceramics are
used in various thins and appliances. Choosing
the type of Clay is main step which define which type of ceramics product would
be. Ceramics are also used in electrical application and thermal insulations.
Ceramics are key product in our daily life like cooking vessels, pipes, toys
and art foam.
